Red-breasted Mergansers (fish ducks). Actually, I loved days like that at the beach. I remember one cold, rainy day on a Northern California beach years ago, were I saw Harbor Seals, California Sea Lions, and not one other human being on a 5 mile walk. I felt like the first person to ever set foot there.

Thanks Carl! Figured it was one of the mergansers with those big crests standing up on their heads…I was just too lazy, er, ‘busy’ to look it up in my bird book ;)

I love those feelings, the ones where you feel like the first to set foot there. Those feelings are only rivaled by the ones where you are left wondering how many others, such as the native americans, have come before you and stood in that spot, looking at that view.

Yeah I have no idea what that plant is…but it is an ornamental, I can tell you that much ;)
